Top 10 Things Every Grad Student Should Do
9. For those who are new to campus, talk with other grad students, or undergrads, to learn more about professors you're considering working with. You'll be working very closely with your major prof for the next two years, so you want to make sure you're choosing someone you can get along with.
8. Narrow your research topic early. If possible, get this nailed down in your first semester. Before you can make progress, you need to have a clear direction.
7. Set aside research time each week. Make slow, steady progress in your research, not a mad sprint at the end. Classes will take care of themselves, but research tends to be procrastinated. Try breaking research up in to small, bite-size chunks you can accomplish in a week.
6. Teach — a class, a lab, a recitation, a study group — anything!
Aside from the great experience, teaching is as beneficial to the teacher as it is to the student.
5. Participate in on-campus activities, whether it’s India Night, Africa Night or cheap movies at the Student Union Building (SUB).
4. Publish your research findings along the way. Present them at conferences. Many conferences allow you to submit "work in progress" papers and present your research to date. This lets you see what others in your field are doing and gives you feedback from peers about your research. Also, it gets you started on writing. If you publish once a semester, chances are that your thesis will be mostly written by the time you're ready to graduate.
3. Use the university’s facilities — the Commons, the Student Rec Center, the Kibbie Dome, the print shop, and tutoring and counseling services. As a student, these are free, and you'll likely spend a lot of money later in life to use facilities that aren't half as nice as what you have here.
2. Meet people. University of Idaho is rich in diversity, ethnicity and culture.
Spending time with others can provide valuable insights and perspectives that you might not get elsewhere.
1. Enjoy Moscow. There are few other places like it. The things I love most are the Farmers’ Market, the Bill Chipman Palouse Trail, hiking and biking on Moscow Mountain, snow sports and the four, distinct seasons. The community is small and friendly, so why not mingle and become part of it?

Qualities of a good student
1. Attitude: Basically, a good student possesses the ability and willingness to learn new subjects even if the subjects are not interesting.
2. Academic skills: Acquiring academic skills is the most important quality of a good student. Ability to read comprehensively, to write effectively, to speak fluently, and to communicate clearly are the key areas in which a student must be proficient. Having a good command in all these areas will make a student to shine in the class.
3. Ability: A good student has the ability to apply the results of his or her learning in to a creative way and achieve the goals.
4. Perceptiveness: How well a student can interpret and perceive meanings from a conversation greatly determines the quality of a good. A good student always perceives right meaning from conversations, but an average student often misunderstands the original thoughts of a speaker or writer and derives a wrong conclusion.
5. Self-Discipline: Discipline in managing the time is an important factor that every good student must possess. Often delaying the tasks, such as writing assignments, reading text books, etc, may negatively impact the ability of a student to achieve the goals.
6. Understanding rather than memorizing concepts: Resolving any doubts by asking about them on the spot is always a good thing. Several surveys suggest students must understand the concepts rather than just memorize them. The memorized facts and theories will stay in student's memory until they leave school, college, or university. Once out of school, the students will totally forget the core concepts that they had learnt. Therefore, it is essential for a good student to understand the concepts.

Discrimination in Result in Grading System
Discrimination in Result in Grading System
The 2001(SSC) and 2003(HSC) batch are really in dilemma with their result, they can't convert their result in grading system nor division system. The number of student got A+ or GPA 5.0 in 2001 was only 76 but it exceed to 41,797 in 2008 result. And same discrimination found in 2003 HSC. It doesn't mean that student of 2001-2003 batch are not talent. It is a great mistake of Education Ministry Authority. Initially teachers were evaluating test script as Division based result, that why this batch got lower GPA. Another reason, grading of fourth subject was added to their GPA. That's why they were lagging behind.
A group of Dhaka University students who passed their SSC examinations in 2001, 2002 and 2003 and completed HSC exams in 2003 demanded issuing of a circular from the education ministry converting grade point average (GPA) of SSC and HSC levels into first division, second division and third division.
They placed the demand at a press conference at Dhaka University Journalists' Association at Teacher-Student Centre on the campus.
They demanded the ministry convert GPA from 3.50 to above out of five as first division, GPA from 2.50 to 3.49 as second division and GPA from 2.49 to its below as third division.
The students alleged that they are now facing discrimination in job market as they achieved low GPA than the students have achieved higher one in recent years as they were in first batch of the GPA system in the country.
They said they are now unfit to apply for jobs in corporate houses as the houses in their advertisements convert GPA 4.25 out of 5 as second division and GPA 4.50 as first division.

Academic Grading System in Bangladesh
Academic Grading System in Bangladesh
There was a revolutionary change in the result of SSC (Secondary School Certificate) and HSC (Higher School Certificate) after introducing of Grading System. It was 2001, when first grading system is introduced in SSC result. The no. of Highest grades(A+) was very limited. In that time, only one student got GPA 5.0 (A+) from Comilla board. In 2003 grading system was introduced in HSC level. The revolution after 8 years of existence has created a lot of question regarding its effectivity. As almost all the students get GPA 5 and there is no way to know their achieved marks, it is plain impossible to judge their calibre. Now there is actually no point in working hard for exams. Because you can easily get an A+ by getting 80, so why try for 90 or above?
| Class Interval | Letter Grade | Grade Point |
|---|---|---|
| 80-100 | A+ | 5 |
| 70-79 | A | 4 |
| 60-69 | A- | 3.5 |
| 50-59 | B | 3 |
| 40-49 | C | 2 |
| 33-39 | D | 1 |
| 0-32 | F | 0 |
